Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 21,997. Its county seat is Clinton. The county was organized in 1835 as Rives County, and renamed in 1841 after the American patriot Patrick Henry, of Virginia. The county was originally named after William Cabell Rives (1793-1868), who served as U. S. senator from Virginia, 1833-1845. However, he lost popularity in Missouri after joining the Whig Party.
