Audrain County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 25,853. Its county seat is Mexico. The county was organized in 1836. Tradition says the county was named for settler Samuel Audrain. Another says it was named for a state legislator, variously cited as James or Charles Audrain. The county's website says James H.
